Required Qualifications

High school diploma and at least five (5) years of experience in medical record abstraction and coding. Certification from a professional coding organization, such as American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), or American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC), or Practice Management Institute (PMI), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).

Job Description

Provide Coding Education to the Neurology Department including clearing providers to code, providing education to Neurology production coder(s) and other staff, review provider documentation to identify education opportunties for improved accuracy and reimbursement.

Experience coding neurology services.

Job Duties

Job Duty

Analyze medical record documentation against billing documentation guidelines and educating department, their physicians and coders on ways to appropriately document the medical record for services provided.

Job Duty

Work directly with identified Physicians and other billing providers in educating them on coding principles and documentation requirements with the specific objective of clearing the provider to code certain services independently. Work cooperatively with the Compliance Department in this effort.

Assist with development of training materials for the coding of medical services. Provide appropriate education to faculty and departments as necessary.

Provide support to production coders by researching regulatory changes for their specialty. Participate in webinars and round-table discussions as necessary.

Analyze coding denials to determine training needs. Engage in workflow and policy/procedure development.
