Job Description

Working at a Pediatric Ophthalmologist clinic with some adult patients. Responsible for greeting patients, verification of insurance for authorizations and demographic info, for scheduling or coordinating any follow up appointments in the Ophthalmology practice. This position works closely with clinical staff and faculty/providers to keep them informed of arrived patients and in turn, keep the patient abreast as to the status of their scheduled appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

One or more years experience in a health care setting; specifically with front desk protocol, insurance processes, co-payment collection, and scheduling. Experience in an ophthalmology/optometry medical practice. Bilingual (English/ Spanish)
Experience with pediatric patients

Job Duty

Performs denial reviews for patient accounts by reviewing pre-authorization denial work queue to identify patients that have incomplete or incorrect demographic or insurance information. Obtains pre-authorizations by phone or email. Ensures visit notes and prescriptions were scanned into OnBase, checks lab work/MRI results, works the registration review queue, returns voicemails in a timely manner, corrects all errors prior to the patient’s date of service, assists in filing/pulling charts. Schedules surgeries, MRI’s. Answers phones and assists patients with appointments or other requests as necessary. Other duties as needed.

Verifies and obtains parent/legal guardian signature missing on any required forms such as consent for treatment, release of information, use of social security number, and Medicare secondary pay or information. Verifies at each patient visit: patients demographic and insurance info, corrects if necessary. Charge entry. Works closely with UH staff and administration.

Contact clinical staff for any unscheduled add-on patients for triage and approval prior to adding to schedule. Assists clinical staff with patient flow and, if needed, assists provider with translation
