Job Description

The Clinical Informatics Research Division (CIRD) developer team works on a highly varied portfolio of projects that evolves to meet the needs of grants and research projects. CIRD processes terabytes of data to populate multiple clinical data warehouses for use by researchers. We operate with several national clinical research networks and facilitate participation in clinical trials by making our university visible to pharmaceutical companies and researchers on these many networks as well as in-house researchers. We are pursuing the use of NLP in data processing and are working on coordinating with local biorepositories to integrate genetics data with our clinical data warehouse.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated developer who is interested in not just programming and computers, but also research and the chance to make a meaningful difference. This is a job where the discovery and learning are never over. There is room for developers to have their own projects, collaborate with researchers, publish papers, and present at conferences and workshops. The developer will work with a team or independently on writing new software, adapting existing code, configuring servers, optimizing queries and processes, working with researchers and clinicians to improve existing resources or develop new ones, and collaborating with developers at sites around the country on multi-site projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Programming skills in:

• Experience with:
o Oracle, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server
o Big data and big data analytics
o NLP
o Git, subversion, or other code versioning system
o Working with a team of developers on a project.
o Linux command line and Linux server configuration
o Information Security
• Experience in the medical, or biological fields is also a big bonus as is knowledge of Allscripts Sunrise ®, Epic ®, or other electronic health record systems.

Job Duties

Job Duty

Under direct supervision, work with a team or independently on writing new software or adapting existing code in Python, R, Java, SQL, and other languages. Software and scripts may be developed from scratch in-house or adapted from open source programs. Developer may be responsible for developing modules or adapting external code to our system.

Work with servers such as Wildfly(Jboss) and Tomcat in a Linux environment. Under supervision, install, configure, and upgrade servers and their plugins.

Collaborate with other developers at multiple sites. Develop or execute shared queries intended to be run at multiple institutions across the country. Work with developers from multiple universities to develop software and scripts for research purposes.

Provide assistance to local researchers by designing queries to extract, standardize, and de-identify data pulled from electronic health records. Work with local data analysts to develop scripts and software for data visualizations and statistical analysis.
