Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or directly related field and at least five (5) years of related accounting or business experience, including at least two (2) years of supervisory experience.

Job Description

The Poison Center Director represents one arm of the leadership team, in addition to the Medical Director(s). Ensures that information provided to the public and health care professionals is of the highest possible quality. Optimizes the poison center’s stability through astute financial management. Hires, trains, mentors, and manages a team of experts in toxicology, using policies and procedures designed to facilitate optimal output (timely flow of quality information). Oversees the quality of information collected and recorded for descriptive epidemiology purposes. Ensures that the center has planned for continued provision of poison center services during emergencies. Establishes and maintains partnerships with public health and other stakeholders. Ensures that meaningful surveillance links exist to transmit poison center hazard observations to appropriate public health officials.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual (Spanish), Clinical experience with patient care, Certification as a Specialist in Poison Information or a Diplomate of the American Board of Applied Toxicology.

Manages the day-to-day operations of the center assuring that high quality is achieved, program deliverables are designed and delivered in a cost effective manner, and compliance with regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies.

Designs, executes a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that center operations are effective and efficient, center assets are safeguarded, financial information is reliable and center complies with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Develops budgets, monitors expenses and ensures expenses are in line with revenues.

Initiates, continues, and/or develop various federal, state, public, and private grant applications related to the Center’s assigned programs. Reviews, analyzes, evaluates and provides written and oral reports regarding assigned programs/projects.

Provides direct supervision and management of employees assigned to the South Texas Poison Center. Will work with Department and Poison Center leadership in hiring, terminating, scheduling and assigning work, measuring performance and promoting and contributing to decisions regarding pay.

Conducts administrative functions related to the South Texas Poison Center and other outreach programs, which include planning, evaluating, and dissemination poison information services. Assures short and long range strategy which achieves the Poison Center mission. Contributes to short and long term organization planning and strategy. Other duties as requested by the Medical Director.
